Her Own Two Feet

 by Meredith Davis and Rebeka Uwitonze Genre:  Narrative Nonfiction Rebeka lives in a small village in Rwanda with her loving family, but she was born with curled and twisted feet.  Because of her disability, she is unable to walk and keep up with her brothers and sisters even though she tries as hard as she possibly can.  When she turns 9, a doctor in the United States offers to sponsor surgery and medical care to see if he can help her walk.  Rebeka leaves everything behind and flies to the United States to live with the Davis family for a year in hopes that she can learn to walk and get back to her life in Rwanda.

Pumpkin's Story

 by Aubre Andrus Genre:  Narrative Nonfiction Pumpkin the miniature horse was born with legs that would not allow her to stand.  Luckily, she was rescued by Ashley, the owner of the nonprofit Twist of Fate Farm and Sanctuary.  Through Ashley's help and the generous donations of many people around the world, veterinarians were able to surgically repair her legs so that she could learn to gallop and live like other miniature horses.

Harrington Genre:  Historical Fiction Maggie Stevenson is tired of people making fun of her stutter and her dad is tired of listening to her try to talk.  She has gone through 3 schools in 2 years so as a result her parents have decided to send her to live in the country with her grandfather for awhile.  The only time Maggie doesn't stutter is when she is talking to animals.  While exploring the Wildoak forest, Maggie comes across a snow leopard caught in a trap.  She frees him and then does everything she can to help him recover from his injuries.  She tries to tell her grandfather about the leopard, but he is convinced that what Maggie found is a runaway farm cat.  When the townspeople start to complain about a "monster cat" that is terrorizing live stock, he finally listens to what she has been trying to tell him. Can Maggie and her grandfather work together to save the snow leopard?

Island of Spies

Is WWII coming to their tiny island after all?
