The First State of Being

 by Erin Entrada Kelly Genre:  Science Fiction Michael and Giddy aren't sure what to make of the new kid who has mysteriously appeared in the courtyard of their apartment building.  The kid is acting strangely and is dressed unusually.  When they finally speak to him, he tells them that his name is Ridge and that he is from the future.  Michael and Giddy don't really believe him until he talks more about the future and shows them the device that got him to their small town.  Michael is more worried about what is going to happen on January 1, 2000, but Giddy wants to know more about how they can help Ridge.  Can Michael put his worries aside and help Ridge get back to where he belongs?

A Rover's Story

 by Jasmine Warga Genre:  Science Fiction     Resilience is a Mars rover with a special mission.  He is being sent to Mars to learn more about the planet and hopefully retrieve a stranded rover that went offline.  Res knows that he has an important job to do and the more he interacts with the humans who are getting him ready for the mission, the more he learns about the world.  He begins to form attachments to the humans who are building him which is going to make it hard for him to leave.  Robots aren't supposed to have feelings, but Res thinks he is starting to have feelings about all kinds of things.  He knows for sure that once he gets to Mars, he will do everything he can to fulfill him mission and return to the humans who created him. 

The Superteacher Project

 by Gordon Korman Genre:  Science Fiction Oliver and Nathan  love to play pranks on their teachers and classmates, but they have met their match with their new teacher, Mr. Aidact.  The guy seems to know about the prank almost before they even pull it!  How is it possible that he has super human reaction times that allows him to stop spitballs in mid air and he can answer almost every trivia question without even thinking about it? Turns out that Mr. Aidact is actually a robot.  He's part of the Department of Education's plan to see if teachers can be replaced by an all knowing robot.  Mr. Aidact is quickly becoming the most popular teacher and coach in the 7th grade, but what will happen when everyone learns the truth about him?

The Truth About Martians

 by Melissa Savage Genre:  Science Fiction Mylo never believed that Martians were real until a flying saucer crash landed near his home in New Mexico.  Mylo is grieving the loss of his beloved older brother so this adventure is a welcome distraction.  Mylo and his friends are warned not to go and investigate the strange crash they heard in the desert, but naturally, they can't help themselves and go off to check it out.  Mylo is the only one brave enough to go into the flying saucer where he finds a weak Martian who needs his help.  Before Mylo can help him, the US Air Force arrives and takes all evidence of the crash landing back to the base.  The military tells the town that it was a just a routine weather balloon that landed, but Mylo and his friends know the truth.  When a second Martian shows up at Mylo's house asking for his help, Mylo knows he will have to be brave and give it a try.

Daughter of the Deep

 by Rick Riordan Genre:  Science Fiction Ana Dakkar and her brother are students at Harding-Pencroft Academy, a high school that specializes in graduating the best underwater explorers.  Their parents were killed in a scientific expedition so all they have left is their school and each other.  Ana and her freshman class set off to sea to begin their freshman exams when an explosion destroys their school and everyone left behind.  Ana can't believe that her brother and all of the others are gone.  Worse yet, the explosion seems to have been intentional.  Who would want to destroy their school and what can 20 freshman who have barely started their education do about it?  Ana is about to realize that she has a lot to learn if she wants to save herself and the remaining students at Harding-Pencroft.

As months pass, and Maddie has no human contact, she begins to lose hope that her parents will ever return to find her.  Where did everyone go and will they ever come back?

The Middler

Voyage of the Dogs

The Infinite Lives of Maisie Day

Sal and Gabi Break the Universe

by Laura Martin Lexile:  840 Genre:  Science Fiction Once you have been categorized as a RISK kid, the government gets very interested in you.  RISK stands for Reoccurring Incidents of the Strange Kind and once you are identified, your life changes for good.  Emerson has always felt alone because of his RISK feature - he floats!  In order to stay on earth he has to wear special weighted shoes and a weighted vest.  His mom has decided that it would be best for him to attend a special summer camp with other RISK kids.  Emerson thinks it is a horrible idea until he gets there are realizes that spending time with other kids who feel alone and different, just might make him feel a whole lot better! 

Eventown

by Corey Ann Haydu Genre:  Science Fiction Elodee and Naomi are twin sisters and up until this year have had similar likes and dislikes, but now that they are heading into middle school, Elodee feels like they are drifting apart.  Something happened in their family that no one is willing to talk about and it is causing them to drift a part.  Their parents decide that the best way to leave their past behind is to pack up and move to Eventown where they can get a fresh start.  Life in Eventown seems perfect, but once they are there Elodee starts to notice that things are a little off, a little too perfect.  Naomi and her parents seem to fit in just fine, but Elodee is asking too many questions, and the people of Eventown aren't used to that.  Will Elodee be able to fit in to life in Eventown?
