Hazel Bly and the Deep Blue Sea

 by Ashley Herring Blake Genre:  Realistic Fiction Hazel used to love the ocean, until the day that she lost her Mum in a kayaking accident.  Now Hazel is afraid that bad things will happen to the rest of her family so she is doing everything she can to protect them.  Her Mama is trying her best, but she doesn't seem to want to talk about Mum and keeps moving them around the country.  They are just settling into life in Rose Harbor, Maine when Mama runs into Claire, a childhood friend who she hasn't seen since they were 12.  Claire has a super friendly daughter, Lemon, who immediately wants to include Hazel in all of her summer activities.  Hazel isn't sure she wants to make new friends since she is never sure how long they'll stick around.  Lemon has suffered a tragic loss in her life too.  Is it possible for the two girls to leave their sorrrows behind?

The Mending Summer

 by Ali Standish Genre:  Realistic Fiction, Fantasy Georgia feels like her family is falling apart.  Her mom is back in school trying to get a biology degree and her dad is staying out late and when he comes home he isn't acting himself.  He walks a little wobbly, and sings just a little bit too loud.  Her mom decides that the best thing would be for Georgia to spend the summer in the country with her Aunt Marigold, but Georgia is tired of the adults in her life who won't talk to her about what is going on.  When Georgia arrives in the country, she finds a magical lake in the woods and meets a new friend, Angela, who seems to have secrets of her own.  Georgia is determined to get to the bottom of all of the secrets and force the people in her life to tell it to her straight.

The Shape of Thunder

 by Jasmine Warga Genre:  Realistic Fiction Cora hasn't spoken to her best friend, Quinn, since the day her sister was killed in a school shooting and she doesn't know if she will ever be able to speak to her again.  Mabel was just getting used to being in high school when Quinn's brother brought guns to school and shot her and 3 other students.  Cora knows it isn't Quinn's fault, but somehow it just seems wrong that she and Quinn get to continue on with their lives while Mabel doesn't.  But when Quinn approaches Cora with a plan to see if time travel can fix the past and bring their siblings back, Cora can't help but be interested.  If the girls work together will they be able to set things right?
