Life became very different for Japanese Americans after the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1942 and 10 year old Manami is struggling to understand why she suddenly has to leave her home.  She and her family have been relocated to the Manzanar Prison Camp in the desert of California.  Manami is sad about leaving her home, school, and especially her dog, behind.  Life in the prison camp is a struggle and Manami doesn't understand why things are the way they are.  The grownups in her life aren't explaining much to her. All Manami wants is her old life back.
