Paloma Marquez is convinced that this will be her worst summer ever.  Her mother has been invited to spend a month in Mexico and Paloma has to go along with her.  Her father was originally from Mexico and planned to take Paloma there someday, but he died when she was only 3 years old.  Her mother looks at this trip as an opportunity for Paloma to learn about her father's culture.  While there, Paloma meets some new friends who convince her to help them solve the mystery of a valuable piece of jewelry.  A peacock ring that belonged to the famous artist, Frida Kahlo, has disappeared and for some reason Paloma's new friends, Gael and Lizzie, think she can help them find it.  Maybe this summer won't be as lame as Paloma thought it was going to be...
