Peter and his family love baseball.  Everything that Peter has learned about the sport comes from his very talented older brother Nelson.  But when Nelson is killed in a car accident, life at home changes and Peter no longer wants anything to do with baseball.  Baseball without Nelson is too hard to handle.  Life is moving on whether he wants it to or not, but Peter's mom is struggling and Peter doesn't know how to help her.  So he decides that maybe if he joins the baseball team, it will give him something to talk to his mom about.  At the tryouts, Peter's dad unexpectedly volunteers to coach.  Peter is shocked because he had no idea that his father had any interest in coaching.  His father's methods seem unconventional to Peter and his teammates and when one of the players turns out to be a girl, some of the boys threaten to quit.  Is there any way this team will have a winning season?
