Ferris

 by Kate DiCamillo

Genre:  Realistic Fiction

It's the summer before Ferris begins 5th grade and it starts out like an ordinary summer, until her grandmother sees a ghost in her room.  Her grandmother believes that the ghost can not leave their house until the beautiful chandelier is lit for the first time.  While her grandmother is dealing with the ghost, other family members are facing their own struggles.  Ferris' uncle has quit it job and moved into the basement to paint, her little sister is running wild all over town, and there house has been invaded by a cranky old racoon.  Ferris isn't sure how all of these problems are going to get resolved, but for some reason she seems to be the one that people are leaning on to help figure out solutions.
